Jimmy Floyd's Bradford Marine E-News March 2011

Welcome to the Sixth Edition of the
Bradford Marine E-News

jimmy floydWelcome to Volume VI of the Bradford Maine E-News.  I trust everyone had a nice Holiday season and a great start to 2011.  I took my annual trip to St. Maarten in February and visited yachts on the Dutch and French sides.  It was a very busy trip with lots of yachts to see.  Thank all of you for your hospitality during my visit there.

To better serve the yachting community and yachts of all sizes, Bradford Marine is now servicing yachts in six (6) locations.  Click here to see our 6 Locations Flyer. Thank you to everyone at each of these locations and our customers for making this possible. We look forward to continuing these services for you well into the future.

It appears that the positive attitude which seems to have started at the Monaco boat show this past year has carried on through the Lauderdale & Miami shows.  We've had very positive reports from the Miami show about contracts written and several closings.  We're all looking forward to the Palm Beach show, March 24th - 27th.  I believe that some of this is due to the economy getting better as well as the new tax law passed in Florida last year.

I had a nice conversation with Jason Dunbar from Luke Brown & Associates, and he was very excited with the success of the tax law. Jason said, "John Cacciatore with the Florida Department of Revenue boat division said that they collected 85 $18,000 checks the first 6 months of the program for use taxes alone, for a total of $1,530,000.  As you may recall, Florida anticipated the "cost" to the state at $1.4 million, but Florida is well in the black and making money on just boat use taxes!  The DOR says that they don't have a way to capture data on the sales portion, but one brokerage company alone collected 60 $18,000 checks for sales taxes for a total of $1,080,000 in sales taxes on boat sales exceeding $300,000 in the first 5 ½ months of the program where boats would have otherwise gone "offshore".  This is clearly a huge success for the state without even considering the residual effects!"

We would like to thank Captain Charles Hacker and the crew of the Aviva III for the opportunity to work with them on this project. Aviva III is a 223' (68m) Abeking & Rasmussen built in 2007. As Captain Hacker stated, "She is a beautiful lady with a new skirt."

Buddy Davis Edition

buddy davis center console for sale

In mid February, I had Bradford Marine's 34' Buddy Davis Edition out for a ride on the New River in Ft Lauderdale and was approached by a yacht owner that expressed interest in the boat. He owns a 53m yacht plus several others, liked the looks of our center console and wanted a ride. We spent about an hour together before getting back on his tender.
